Non-Verbal Stuttering, Variability of Stuttering, and Much More (Episode 16)

Download | Duration: 00:48:28

Greg and Peter talk about non-verbal forms of stuttering including morse code stuttering, stuttered sign language and horn stuttering (playing wind instruments with a stutter) - You may check out a paper by Greg on this topic. We compare these non-verbal forms of stuttering to verbal stuttering. Greg weighs in on using breathing strategies to control stuttered speech. We end by discussing a two part question that was posted on the StutterTalk MySpace page - we discuss the variability of stuttering and the difference between causes and triggers of stuttering. During this week's podcast we discuss a paper by Luc De Nil in which he says, "[There is] one phenomenon that characterizes all those who stutter: a motor disruption of speech fluency" (par. 7). We play an avoidance story from Daniele Rossi
who called in to the StuterTalk voice mail line (206-888-4619).

Thanks to the Brooklyn based Hold Steady for supplying their musical goodness to StutterTalk. We also include some fine music from Eric's bands Higgins and Rocketship Park.
