Where Do Our Thoughts Go When We Stutter? (Episode 32)

Download | Duration: 00:37:06

This was the show of many topics. The guys talked about how great Kristin Chmela was last week. Then Peter, Eric and Joe took on the following topics: What exactly is a speech tool? Where do our minds go during a moment of stuttering? Is stuttering ever easier or preferable to using speech tools? The guys also ask listeners, "Why, sometimes, is it hard being a stutterer?" Eric's pal, Benji Cossa, was kind enough to sketch us Stuttertalk folk. Below is a sketch of Joe Klein.

    Hey Guys,
Great show. The part about stuttering being a choice really impacted me, as well as discussion abut where your thoughts go in the moment of stuttering. I sometimes have the same reactions - negative feelings or emotions when I stutter. I also thought "is stuttering a disability" was a great point. I talked to a graduate class this week about stuttering, and the professor introduced my topic as a "non-disability". I seized the moment to explain my thought that stuttering can be disabling to a person if they choose to avoid speaking situations. You can feel socially paralyzed, in a sense, right? Its a fascinating topic -the whole concept about what defines a disability, and what is acceptable.
Thanks for doing this show - awesome.
    Pam
