Talking to Your Parents About Stuttering (Episode 41)
Download | Duration: 00:45:30
For our listeners in the NY metropolitan area, The Our Time Theatre Company, an artistic home for people who stutter, is performing three days at the Cherry Lane Theatre at 38 Commerce Street just off of 7th Ave in Manhattan, Friday June 20 at 8pm, Saturday June 21 at 8pm and Sunday June 22 at 3pm. Call Our Time at 212 414-9696 for more details. To learn more about Our Time check out episode 12 of StutterTalk where we interview Taro Alexander, the founder and director of Our Time.
This week Greg, Peter and Eric discuss a listener email concerning talking with her parents about stuttering. Then we discuss a speech therapy approach with children that does not focus on speech tools at all (imagine that!). We end out by discussing (once again) the difference between fluency mentors and stuttering mentors. The poster below is published by the Stuttering Foundation and features famous people who stutter.

We want to remind our listeners about the 2008 annual conference of the National Stuttering Association in Parsippany, New Jersey from June 25-29 and about the upcoming 2008 11th Annual Convention of FRIENDS: The National Association of Young People Who Stutter being held in New Orleans, Louisiana from July 24-26, 2008.

Thanks to Brooklyn-based bands The Hold Steady and The National and Yo La Tengo for supplying their musical goodness to StutterTalk. We also include some fine music from Eric's bands Rocketship Park and Higgins.
