Greg and Peter discuss StutterTalk Episode 69 which featured very special guest Dr. Ronald Webster of the Hollins Communications Research Institute. Pictured below are Peter, Eric and Greg (from left to right).

What you guys are doing is great. I have enjoyed all of the shows. But...I went through Hollins in 2000 and 2002. They still unwittingly teach that if you are still stuttering after their course IT IS YOUR FAULT and that YOU NEED TO WORK HARDER. A person starting out on this journey only sees the before and after video as a cure, they see the success rates as a cure. I am afraid that in your professional fairness and courtesy to Dr. Webster that you just fed the HCRI machine big time. I would hate to think that other unsuspecting PWS may get trapped in that mindset wasting years trying to deal with their speech first only to realize that the real issue has to do with their ill perceptions and beliefs about stuttering. It would be better if HCRI was looked at as 1 tool of many instead of the tool for all. Two important things I learned from HCRI was that stuttering did not just happen to me and that it can be managed. The other is that for the first time I became aware and could feel what was physically happening when I stuttered.
Keep up the incredible service you are doing for us. Your shows have helped me to see stuttering in new ways. Constantly hearing and reading that it is OK to stutter on your site has helped to penetrate my nonsense. Thanks Again!
