Nora A. O’Connor joins Peter Reitzes to discuss substance abuse and stuttering.
Nora reads from her chapter which was published in StutterTalk’s first book – Stuttering: Inspiring Stories and Professional Wisdom.
Nora and Peter discuss Nora’s experiences with substance abuse and stuttering, recovery, 12 step programs, the Successful Stuttering Management Program (SSMP), mindfulness and meditation, LGBT issues and Passing Twice, stuttering issues related to girls and women and much more. Nora reads several passages from her forthcoming chapter on substance abuse and stuttering which will be published in 2012.
NORA A O’CONNOR is a professional social worker, a person who stutters and an adviser to StutterTalk. Nora is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California and has been involved locally and nationally with self help organizations for people who stutter for over 15 years. Nora has been featured in two stuttering documentaries, Spit It Out (2004) and Right Here, Right Now (PBS, 2000).

Reuben is asked about fluency vs. effective communication, struggled stuttering vs. forward moving stuttering, putting himself in challenging speaking situations and much more.
Reuben Schuff is an Aerospace Engineer. Reuben founded (with Rita Thurman) a Teens Who Stutter (TWST) chapter of the National Stuttering Association (NSA) in Raleigh, North Carolina. Reuben is also a past local chapter leader of the NSA.
