This episodes begins with several amazing minutes of short, concise statements about stuttering from a number of conference attendees at the National Stuttering Association’s 30th Annual Conference in Scottsdale, AZ. Then Jamie Rocchio and Mary Anne join StutterTalk hosts Roisin McManus and Caryn Herring (of the StutterTalk B Team) to refresh friendships and discuss the conference and their stuttering. Jamie has been featured many times on StutterTalk and discusses the guilt or concern she feels about attending the conference when she is not stuttering much at this time. The group then discusses how they have inspired and motivated one another over the years.
Guests from the first segment of this episode include Charles White, Luis Espinoza, Stavros Ladeas, Maureen Hooker, Ryan Pedvin, Ben Pritchard, Drew Hudson, Tony Rocher and Andrew Landeros.
CAMERON FRANCEK joins CARYN HERRING, ROISIN MCMANUS, and JOEL KORTE (the “Stuttertalk B Team”) to discuss his 100 Stutter Project in which he advertises his stuttering to at least one person a day, for 100 days in a row.
Cameron was recently featured in the Detroit Free Press and USA Today with an article and video.
CARYN HERRING, ROISIN MCMANUS, and JOEL KORTE (the “Stuttertalk B Team”) begin the show by discussing a stuttering dream Roisin had minutes before they began recording. The dream revolves around Roisin’s role speaking at an upcoming wedding, so the group discusses different ways Roisin may or may not want to advertise. Later, Joel talks about working as a Speech-Language Pathologist. The B Team wraps up the show by discussing an experience Caryn recently had at a special needs exhibition.
CARYN HERRING, ROISIN MCMANUS, and JOEL KORTE (the “Stuttertalk B Team“) discuss Joel’s current struggles with stuttering as well as “Speech Tool Guy,” a concept he made up and introduced in episode 374. Joel loosely defines “Speech Tool Guy” as a character who is never ashamed of stuttering, using speech tools, or being fluent. Roisin shares a “healthy skepticism” of Speech Tool Guy while Joel tries to figure out the best direction for controlling his stuttering.
Joel shares that, “Every time I try really, really hard not to stutter, it’s a disaster.”
