Bruce Wampold, Ph.D., ABPP,  joins Peter Reitzes to discuss the common factors model of therapy and much more.

BRUCE WAMPOLD is Professor and Chair of the Department of Counseling Psychology at the University of Wisconsin —Madison and Professor of Psychiatry. Dr. Wampold has authored and co-authored numerous studies, articles, books and chapters including the much discussed book The Great Psychotherapy Debate: Models, Methods and Findings. During this episode Dr. Wampold is asked about his personal experience with psychotherapy, the placebo effect in therapy, the common factors model, the therapeutic alliance, how to choose a therapist and much more. Dr. Wampold was featured in this interesting conversation on NPR titled Can Science Make Psychotherapy More Effective?

David Seidler joins Peter Reitzes to discuss the wonderful film The King’s Speech.

David Seidler, 73, is the British born, Long Island raised script writer of the wonderful new film The King’s Speech which won The Toronto Film Festival’s most popular film award and is expected to be the dominant film at this year’s Oscars. During this episode Mr. Seidler discusses his own stuttering, writing the script, researching the project, rehearsals, specific scenes and working closely with Colin Firth and director Tom Hooper to get the stuttering right.

Caryn Herring, Joel Korte and Roisin McManus (the Stuttertalk “B Team”) speak with Andrew Bowers about his involvement in the highly successful”Twenty-something”  program offered by the National Stuttering Association (NSA).  The NSA’s 20 Something Program was very well received at their 2010 annual conference. They discuss the unique challenges that present themselves when stuttering in your 20’s.  The B Team members wrap up the show by catching up with each other and talking about some interesting stuttering situations that have come up in the past month for them. Andrew Bowers is a person who stutters and works as a school speech-language pathologist in the Fort Worth, TX area.

Emily Blunt joins Peter Reitzes and Eric Jackson to discuss her experiences with stuttering. Emily Blunt is a British actress known for her starring roles in The Devil Wears Prada, The Young Victoria,  Sunshine Cleaning and most recently appeared in 2010’s The Wolfman. In 2007, Ms. Blunt won a Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for the TV Film Gideon’s Daughter. During this episode, Emily discusses many aspects of her stuttering, including when she started stuttering, what helped her cope and deal with stuttering and so much more.

Taro Alexander joins Peter Reitzes to discuss the wonderful film The King’s Speech.

TARO ALEXANDER is a person who stutters, a professional actor and Founder and Artistic Director of the Our Time Theatre Company in New York City – “An artistic home for young people who stutter.” Taro also founded Camp Our Time – an annual summer camp for young people who stutter and their siblings and friends between the ages of 8-18.  In 2002 Taro was honored by the National Council on Communicative Disorders at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., where he received the Charles Van Riper Award. Alexander performed for 4 years in the successful Off-Broadway production of STOMP. Check out this great article by Taro describing Our Time and this great article by some of the Our Time actors.

During this episode Lee is asked to discuss acceptance from the viewpoint of the mother of a person who stutters and from her experience as a speech-language pathologist and director of a stuttering self-help organization. Lee is a Board Recognized Fluency Specialist and Mentor in Fluency Disorders, Director of the Stuttering Therapy and Resource Center of Long Island, is the co-founder and director of FRIENDS: The Association for Young People Who Stutter and an adjunct professor at New York University, Queens College and Long Island University.
